Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced HR Compliance Specialist to ensure our organization maintains compliance with employment laws and regulations across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This role will be based in our Los Angeles office while supporting our North American retail operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and interpret changes in employment legislation across the USA, Canada, and Mexico
- Develop and update HR policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state/provincial, and local regulations
- Conduct regular audits of HR practices and documentation
- Create and deliver compliance training for managers and employees
- Manage employment verification processes and documentation
- Advise management on risk mitigation strategies for HR-related issues
- Assist with workplace investigations as needed
- Support immigration compliance for cross-border employees
- Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and emerging compliance trends
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in HR compliance, preferably with multi-country experience
- Strong knowledge of US employment laws (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, Title VII, etc.)
- Working knowledge of Canadian and Mexican labor regulations
- Experience with California-specific employment laws
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification preferred
- Bilingual English/Spanish highly desired
- Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to travel occasionally to other North American locations (10-15%)
